Raise Awareness for Colorectal Cancer by Shaking Your Rump in the Rumpshaker 5K
As a place with an unforgettable nickname like “The Butt Hutt,” we are proud to be a sponsor of a 5K race with an unforgettable name as well. The Rumpshaker 5K is a race with a funny name but a serious mission to promote awareness about colorectal cancer, raise funds to fight and treat it, and provide hope for colorectal cancer survivors and those affected by the disease.
The Rumpshaker 5K is the largest free standing 5K in Alabama, and it has hosted more than 25,000 participants since 2009. The race has raised more than a million dollars over the past 10 years.

The Rumpshaker began as a tribute to Lisa Martz, a woman who was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer at the age of 48 on June 22, 2004. Her cancer was advanced, which meant that it was not only in her colon but had spread to another organ. However, she was determined to fight, and fight she did.
During her nearly four year fight against colon cancer, Lisa showed great strength and courage. She continued living her life enthusiastically as a devoted mother and grandmother. She also continually displayed her faith in Christ, and according to her doctors, exemplified what it means to be determined to live. Although Lisa fought with determination and faith, her body succumbed to the disease on October 5, 2007.
In honor of her life and many others, it’s hugely important to continue the battle against colon cancer. We can all gather strength from Lisa’s example and maintain the hope she never lost sight of, which is why her family and friends organized Rumpshaker, Inc. and the race in her memory. It’s a way to raise awareness of the disease in an unforgettable, actionable way.
Whether it’s by running or walking in the race, observing from the sidelines to cheer on runners, or just reading about it and sharing with others, the Rumpshaker should be a reminder that there are steps we can all take to prevent colorectal cancer and save lives.
Together we can make a difference by bringing attention to colorectal cancer, a preventable, treatable and beatable disease. There are many ways to be involved: by racing, donating, or volunteering. Find all the details on the Rumpshaker website.
